Short answer: on Obscurify.ai you can chat with no account, no email and no cookies as a guest, or with an account that is only a random 16-digit number. Your identity is removed before a request reaches the model provider, prompts and responses aren’t stored on our servers, the whole site works over Tor, and payments become blind vouchers that can’t be linked to your account.

‘Anonymous’ is used in a very loose way. A chat site which hides your name but saves all of your conversations alongside your email address isn’t anonymous. Nor is one which hides your identity, but requires your phone number when you sign up. True anonymity means there’s no point on the line that can tie what you’ve asked back to you.

There are four ways you can be identified from this data: your account, the connection that sends data to the platform, the payment method you use, and your prompt. Obscurify.ai attempts to mask the first three. You’re responsible for the last one.

1. The account

As a guest, there’s no account at all. You chat with Llama 3.3 70b Instruct, up to 30 messages an hour, and you get no cookies.

If you desire more models, then your account becomes just a random 16-digit number. No email, no username, no password, no phone number, no ID. Only a keyed hash of the number is kept. This means that Obscurify.ai cannot look up your number for you and if you lose the number, it is unrecoverable.

2. The connection

Obscurify.ai stores IP addresses and user-agents solely for the purpose of combating abuse; these are deleted 30 days after creation. For guests, the IP address is retained in memory for up to one hour in order to enforce the hourly usage limit.

In case you don’t want to disclose your address at all, the whole site is also a Tor onion service. Additionally, there is also a version of the site that works without JavaScript enabled, which corresponds to the safest setting in the Tor Browser.

3. The payment

This is where most privacy services fail silently, because a credit card payment or crypto payment is easily linkable to an account. With Obscurify.ai, all payments are converted to RSA blind signed vouchers (RFC 9474), which you redeem to your balance at a later time. Obscurify.ai can verify that a voucher is authentic but cannot link it to a specific payment.

You can pay with Monero, Bitcoin on-chain or Lightning via Obscurify.ai’s own BTCPay Server with no third-party crypto processor, or pay with your card via Stripe without having to provide an email or save a card. The transaction itself is still visible to the payment processor or on the blockchain, and an unusual amount added all at once could be matched by amount and time.

4. The prompt

The model provider will have to read your prompt in order to respond to it. Obscurify.ai strips out your identity before making the request and only uses zero-data-retention routes, which rely on the providers’ own published policies rather than signed agreements. However, if you type your full name and address into a prompt, no service can make that anonymous.

In case of the most sensitive text, with Local Mode you can run small open models completely within your browser. Your prompt will not leave your device at all. It’s slow because it runs on your CPU, and the models are small, but you don’t send anything anywhere.

Common questions

Is the chat anonymous if I don’t use Tor?

Either way, they won’t pass on your identity to the model provider. If you’re not using Tor, Obscurify.ai will see your IP address and store it for up to 30 days in order to help detect abuse. You can use Tor if you don’t want to share your IP address with them at all.

Can Obscurify.ai read my conversations?

Prompts and responses aren’t stored on Obscurify.ai’s servers; your history stays in your browser. Messages do pass through the service on their way to the model.

Can I stay anonymous and still pay?

Yes. Because of the use of blind vouchers, Obscurify.ai can’t know which payment went towards which account. Monero, Bitcoin, Lightning and card payments are accepted.

What if I lose my account number?

It can’t be recovered, because only a keyed hash of it is stored. Keep it somewhere safe.
